Nine years ago, we had nothing but a prompting, and no plane ticket.
In 2017, my family followed a call we couldn't explain to anyone, including ourselves sometimes. We sold everything, and I mean everything: the house, the furniture, the security, the plan. We said yes to a prompting from God to move to Ghana with our ten children before we even knew how we'd get there, and most people thought we were out of our minds.
I get it, because there were moments I wondered the same thing.
But here's what I know now, nine years later: obedience doesn't make sense until you look back and see what God was building the whole time.
Since 2017, Families Mentoring Families has grown from a prompting into a movement. We've built literacy programs across Africa, teaching adults and children to read, to write, to sign their own names and step into leadership in their communities. We've brought survivors of trafficking home, more than we can count, women who were waiting in the dark for someone to fight for them, and we're working through a waiting list of more than 100 right now. We've watched mothers who couldn't read become teachers, and women who hid from community leaders become the ones organizing hospital cleanings and leading change.
None of that was us doing it alone. That was God moving, and that was you showing up: the donors, the prayer warriors, the amplifiers, the believers who made it possible for us to keep saying yes.
If you've donated, prayed, shared a post, sent an encouraging message, or believed in this mission when it didn't make sense yet, this fruit is yours too. You made it possible for us to say yes to the prompting, and you've been part of every life changed since.
And if you're reading this and sitting on your own call right now, the one that makes no logical sense but won't let you go, let me tell you what I wish someone had told me nine years ago: the miracles are on the other side of the obedience. You won't see them from where you're standing, but they're there, and they're waiting for you to move.
